LAWLIGHTS – LEGAL LATIN TERMS AND ITS     MEANING

 

Letter – A

·       Ad hoc- for a Particular or Immediate Purpose.

·        Ad idem- in agreement

·        Ad valorem- in proportion to the value.

·        Alibi – it is a claim that a person was elsewhere at the time of when a crime was committed.

·        All and sundry- everybody

·        Arson- setting fire to cause damage to it.

·        Ab intestate- having made no will

·        Ab irato- something invalidated by anger

·        Ab utraque parte- of both parties.

·        Aberration ictus- mistake in the blow

·        Ad acta- to the archives.

·        ad bona- for the good

·        Ad Cautelam- as a precaution

·         Ad Hominem- attack against the man instead of the facts.

·        Ad illic- at that place.

·        Ad inquirendum- to the inquiry

·        Ad iuditium- from the judgment.

·        Ad libitum- at will

·        Ad litem- for the suit.

·        Ad probationem- uses the evidence as proof.

·        Ad quem- to which

·        Amicus curiae- friend of the court.

·        Animus confidenti- intention to confess.

·        Ad usum- to usage.

·        Aequo animo- with a calm mind

·        Apud iudisem- procedural stage ie.before judge presenting his sentence(near the judgment)


Phrases:

 

1.  Actio libera in causa- action free in its cause

2.  Actio pro socio- an action of partnership.

3.  Abusus non est usus, sed corruptela- abuse is not use, it is corruption

4.  Abusus non tollit usum- the abuse does invalidate the use.

5.  Accesorium non ducit, sed sequitur suum principale- the accessory does not lead they follow the fortunes of the principal.

6.  Actio damni infecti- action for damages and infections.

7.  Actio de in rem verso- enrichment without cause.

8.  Action de partu agnoscendo- action for recognition of the child.

9.  Action est ius persequendi in iudicio, quod sibi debetur- action is the right to obtain what it is due by the process of law.

10.    Actio in personam- personal action.

11.    Actio in rem scripta- real action.

12.    Actor incumbit probation Reus excipiendo fit actor- the plaintiff must    provide the proof of the facts alleged, the defendant the exceptions presented.

13.    Actore non probante, Reus absolvitur- when the plaintiff not proving the alleged facts on defendants, the defendant is absolved.

14.    Actori incumbis onus probandi- plantiff must prove the facts or case.

15.    Actus me invito practus non es meus actus- the thing done against one’s own will is not their fault.

16.    Actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea- the guilty intention of one’s mind term the act to be guilty.

17.    Audi et alteram partem- let us hear the other side

18.    Aut dedere aut iudicare- either extradites or prosecutes.

19.    Aequitas sequitur legem- equity follows the law.

20.    Aestimatio delicti praeteriti ex post facto non crecit- evaluation of a past committed crime does not increase by a subsequent event.

21.    Argumentum a minori ad maius- argument between minor to minor

22.    Argumentum falsum dilemma- false dilemma argument.

23.    Adjournment sine die- adjournment without a day.

24.    Ad colligenda bona – to collect thegoods

25.    Ad quad damnum- according to the harm.
